Congratulations to Madison Albert-Nelson who swam a 1:00.72 in the 100 fly, which is her 2nd fastest time in her life. This earned her a 4th place podium spot at sectionals and a trip to the State Championships this coming Friday night. She led off the medley relay that finished 8th with a season best time of 1:56.59. Maddy also led off the 200 free relay and the 100 backstroke.
All of the Hillmen swam really well and I’m very proud of the season they had. Allison Brehm broke the varsity 100 breaststroke record (which was held by assistant Elissa Bahr) with a time of 1:13.14. She also swam the medley relay, the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay. Allison is definitely a top swimmer and earned her name of that record board.
Brooklyn Vannatta swam tremendously and narrowly missed qualifying for state in the 50 free. She swam 26.66 and the final qualifiers for state were tied at 26.63. It’s bittersweet to have a best time (and a new freshman record), yet discover that you didn’t quite make it. Brooklyn anchored all of our relays and turned out some amazing splits. This girl knows how to race and is a fierce competitor.
Erin Walker swam fly on the medley relay and the 100 butterfly. She swam a lifetime best of 1:08.46, a two second drop from last weekend. In the past two weeks, she dropped 4 seconds off her lifetime best. It was so much fun to watch her improve.
Clare Drefcinski swam the 50 free with a lifetime best of 27.77 and led off the 400 free relay with another lifetime best time of 1:02.68. Clare has been struggling with ankle injury all season so it was really satisfying to watch her swim so fast.
Finally Shelby Smith, who also swam lifetime best times in her events, the 100 free 1:02.12, the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay. That 400 free relay dropped 9 seconds from their seed time! It was a really good way to end the meet.
I hope that we can have a large group of supporters come to the state championships on Friday night to support Maddy!
