Monday evening saw the Platteville Hillmen outlast the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in a six overtime affair, with the Hillmen coming out on top by a final score of 105-91. The Vanguards got off to a quick start by hitting four three point baskets in the games’ first ten minutes. The Hillmen responded with their own 3 point barrage as Code Rohrbach hit for 11 first half points and Connor Riley added 9 points in the first half. The Hillmen entered the lockeroom with a 28-26 halftime lead.

The Hillmen would lead by as many as ten points in the second half, only to see the Vanguards come back and take a lead late in the game. The Hillmen would tie the game late and at the end of regulation both teams had 48 points on the scoreboard, but oh the fun was just beginning!

The first overtime would find both teams tied at 55 and then the second overtime would have both teams tied at 63. After the third overtime, the two teams were tied at 70 and then the 4th overtime would be tied at 81. The 5th overtime saw both teams score eight points before the Hillmen would outscore the Vanguards in the 6th OT by a 16-2 margin for the 105-91 victory.

Needless to say there was plenty of big plays, but Isaiah Oswald scored a career high 41 points as he made 21 of 24 FT’s and also hit four 3 pt. baskets. Cade Rohrbach had 18 pts and four made 3 point baskets, Connor Riley had 15 points and Austin Wein had 10 points off the bench for the Hillmen.

This was an entire team effort and many players made big plays when their teams needed them. Both teams had at least four players foul out and many reserves played key roles. Andy Eggers, Trey Bartels, Brandon Weigel, Osaze King, Nathan Busch, Calvin Wernimont and Gabe Tashner all contributed to the victory in some fashion or another. The bench was great and the atmosphere was incredible.

Both teams (Platteville and Wisconsin Heights) should be commended for their efforts! With the win, the Hillmen improve to 2-1 on the season and the Vanguards drop to 3-1 overall.

The Hillmen will return to action on this upcoming Friday evening when they open up defense of their 2018 SWC Conference Championship as they travel to Richland Center to take on the Hornets. Tip Time is set for 7:30 PM at Richland Center High School.
