Saturday evening saw the Platteville Hillmen top the Poynette Pumas in Boys’ non-conference basketball action. In what would be a tight game throughout the Hillmen would prevail in the highly competitive contest. Poynette would take an early 9-4 lead only to see the Hillmen comback to tie the game at 19 and eventually take a 27-23 lead into the half time break.
The second half would be a back and forth affair as the game would be tied three times and see six lead changes. Nathan Busch would lead the second half charge as he hit three of his five three point baskets on the evening on his way to a game high 17 points. The Hillmen would take a 46-45 lead late in the game and then Jesse Martin would hit two free throws to put the Hillmen up three with 13.8 seconds remaining. The Hillmen would give up a quick layup but then get two consecutive defensive stops to hold on for the thrilling non-league win.
Along with Busch, Logan Page would continue his hot shooting as he added 10 points on the evening. The Hillmen will return to action on January 24th when the travel to Prairie Du Chien to take on the Blackhawks with game time set for 7:30 PM.
