Platteville High School 11th 556

Recap:
Great Day, Great Meet! Just about one of our runners hit a season PR today, and many of the runners hit their lifetime PR’s as well. Britney Meis once again set a Platteville High School School Record by running a 19:36, and placing 14th in the entire race of over 800 runners. There were 45 Teams entered in the competition. Not all of the teams were complete, but in any case, out Girls in the “White” Race placed 11th overall. Our “Blue” Team was 22nd, and our Girls Varsity was 21st. In the Boys Competition, our Boys White team was 22nd and our Boys Varsity was 33rd. There was some great teams here and great competition. I was very proud of the way we raced today. We are starting to Race, not simply complete the distance. That takes great focus and a knowledge of the body/mind reacts to the various stimuli of pace, fatigue, and pain. Saw some great kicks as well.
As a whole, we got out from the start a bit tentatively. In a big race like this, you really need to get out into the pack right away otherwise a lot of energy is spent simply weaving through the crowd. And, once you settle into a pace, it is better to settle into a fast pace then with a slower one. I was happy in that we were able to recognize that at about the half way point and could make a move – and we did….
Our Girls Varsity made a big jump. Brit had a Fantastic Race today, Harmony had a nice steady race and is looking stronger, Abigail had a huge leap, Alexis was our foundation stone, setting the pace – , and Kasey battled to the end to round out our top 5.
Our Boys Varsity – John started out a bit slow, but then really caught fire on the last half of the race. Cal, Sam, and Quinn ran strong, and steady the entire race. Erik, also caught fire in the last half of the race and really closed that number 5 gap (that is sooo important for us).
I could write a bit on each of you and how you raced today.. It was fun to watch..
Looking forward to the next couple of weeks. Great Job Today.
